Simon Thompson is Head of Practice for Big Data and Customer Experience at BT Research, currently he is also a Visiting Researcher at the Alan Turing Institute and serves on the board of the Systems that Learn Consortium at MIT’s CSAIL department. Simon did a Ph.D. on Machine Learning at the University of Portsmouth, worked briefly as a consultant in the defence industry and then joined BT Research to work on Intelligent Agents. Over the years he has worked on several EU and EPSRC projects, and has been responsible for developing core components in major applications delivering field and customer service automation at BT. Simon developed an interest in Big Data when his group developed a social CRM system, this led Simon to drive Big Data technology and applications of Machine Learning over Big Data into BT’s operations. Simon’s research interests are the quantitative understanding of Data Infrastructures and the application of novel machine learning approaches to real problems
