Katie Sanders is the Assistant Vice President for Operations Technology at Union Pacific Railroad.  She owns the development and delivery of technology products that enable innovation for railroad operations and safety. Her team’s products support key business functions such as train dispatch, yard automation, transportation planning and train control platforms.

Additionally, Katie led the development and delivery of NetControl, UP’s modern logistics management platform, which was fully implemented earlier this year – replacing a 56-year-old legacy mainframe system. This milestone made Union Pacific the first class I railroad to have modernized all three core operating platforms: positive train control (PTC), centralized dispatch (CADx), and NetControl transportation management.

Katie has been with Union Pacific for 21 years and has held various roles across tech infrastructure, operations, product development, and enterprise back office. As a leader she is passionate about building strategies that enable business outcomes, drive an engaged team culture, and empower women in S.T.E.M. and S.T.E.A.M. Katie holds a bachelor’s degree in management information systems from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
