Claudio Gienal

Claudio Gienal is an international insurance senior executive combining a deep understanding of AI and technology with extensive experience as Chief Executive Officer in Switzerland, UK and Ireland. His focus is on driving the transformation of the insurance industry to make it a relevant and reliable pillar of our society, as well as increasing our understanding of mind health and what individuals, companies and governments can address this challenge in Europe.

He joined AXA in June 2017 as member of the European Markets core team, led the UK&I as Chief Executive Officer from 2018 to mid 2023, and is now the Chief Transformation Officer for the EM and Health and co-sponsor of the Group-wide AI agenda and main technology partnerships. He is a director on the AXA Boards in Switzerland and Belgium, as well on the YAROWA Board, as Swiss Based FinTech.

From 2008 to 2017 he hold different senior executive positions at the Zurich Insurance Group level. In his last position for Zurich he acted as Group Chief Strategy Officer. Prior to that he led the Zurich Life Insurance Company as Chief Executive Officer and hold the position as Chief Operating and Claims Officer of the P&C business and shared services of Zurich UK.

Claudio Gienal previously worked for the consulting companies McKinsey and Accenture, focusing on strategy and operational excellence, as well as delivery of large technology programs. Claudio Gienal studied at the benedictine abbey school and subsequently engineering at the federal institute of technology ETH Zurich, where he was awarded a Master’s degree in environmental engineering. The Swiss citizen is 52 years old,
married and father of two daughters.
